Breslau is growing fast
Its population rose by about a third between the 2016 and 2021 censuses, and those newer homes want chargers and hot tubs.

Village shops and offices
LED retrofits and repairs for storefronts, restaurants and small commercial buildings.

Wellesley too
Wellesley Township's villages share Enova Power and similar rural work, so we cover them as well.

Enova Power (formerly Waterloo North Hydro)
Woolwich Township covers the countryside north and north-east of Waterloo and Kitchener, with about ten communities scattered across it. Elmira is the largest, St. Jacobs and Breslau come next, and Conestogo, Maryhill, Bloomingdale, Winterbourne, West Montrose and Floradale are smaller villages and hamlets among the farms. The mix of village houses, new subdivisions, shops and working farms means our days out here are rarely the same twice.
What Elmira homeowners call us about
Elmira is the township's main town, with an older centre and newer streets around it. The older homes near the centre are where we're most likely to find overloaded circuits, a kitchen still sharing one breaker with the dining room, or a basement that's been finished on a single 15 amp line. Untangling that usually means a few new home runs back to the panel and, where the panel is full, a larger one. Newer streets on the edges of town ask for the usual modern additions.
Why Breslau keeps us busy
Breslau sits across the Grand River from Kitchener, with the Region of Waterloo International Airport just to the south. Its population climbed from 3,778 in 2016 to 5,053 in 2021, a jump of about a third in five years. That's a lot of recently built homes whose owners are now adding a Level 2 EV charger in the garage, a circuit for a backyard hot tub, or pot lights in a basement. Newer panels usually have room; when they don't, we'll tell you whether load management or a service upgrade makes more sense.
St. Jacobs and Conestogo
St. Jacobs is a busy village, with village shops, restaurants and small commercial buildings alongside its homes. For those businesses we handle repairs, new circuits during renovations and LED lighting retrofits, which cut power use and maintenance on fixtures that stay lit all day. Conestogo, to the east, is mostly residential, and the work there looks more like Elmira's.
Shops, sheds and farm buildings
Across the rural part of the township, the questions are about outbuildings. Common requests include:
- Replacing an old buried cable to a garage or barn that keeps tripping or has been nicked by a shovel.
- Adding a sub-panel in a workshop so a welder, compressor and heater can run without dimming the lights.
- Moving barn lighting to LED fixtures rated for damp, dusty spaces.
- Wiring a standby generator and transfer switch so the well, furnace and freezers keep going in an outage.
Before we trench, we request utility locates through Ontario One Call, so nobody digs into a gas or phone line. Outbuilding wiring is often the oldest on the property. A drive shed fed decades ago may have no ground, no proper disconnect and splices buried in the dirt, and replacing the whole feed is usually simpler than chasing faults one at a time. Barns and sheds fall under the Ontario Electrical Safety Code the same way a house does, and we file the ESA notification for each job.
Next door in Wellesley Township
West of Woolwich, Wellesley Township's villages, among them Wellesley, St. Clements, Linwood, Hawkesville, Crosshill and Heidelberg, are also on Enova Power's system and share the same rural mix. We take work there too; just tell us where the property is when you call.
Hydro and inspections
Woolwich and Wellesley were Waterloo North Hydro territory until the merger that created Enova Power. Enova repairs its own lines and handles disconnects and reconnects, while the Electrical Safety Authority inspects the work we do on your side of the meter. Our ESA permits guide covers how that works.

Questions people ask
Who supplies electricity in Elmira and St. Jacobs?
Enova Power, the utility formed when Waterloo North Hydro merged with Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro. It serves all of Woolwich Township, as well as Wellesley Township, and handles outages and service disconnects there.
Do you take jobs in Wellesley Township?
Yes. Along with Woolwich, we work in Wellesley Township's villages, including Wellesley, St. Clements, Linwood, Hawkesville and Crosshill, and on the farms around them.
How much does it cost to wire a hot tub in Breslau?
A dedicated hot tub circuit with its disconnect typically runs $500 to $2,500. The distance from the panel to the tub and whether the panel has room for a new breaker make the biggest difference.
Is it worth switching barn lighting to LED?
Usually, yes. LED fixtures draw much less power than older lamps, last far longer, and models rated for damp and dusty locations stand up well in barns. On buildings that are lit for long hours, the savings add up quickly.
Does wiring in a barn or shed need an ESA permit?
Yes. Barns, sheds and workshops are covered by the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and new wiring in them needs a notification to the Electrical Safety Authority and an inspection, just like work in a house.
