GrandBridge Energy (formerly Energy+)

Cambridge is three old towns sharing one name. Galt, Preston and Hespeler, together with the hamlet of Blair, became a single city on January 1, 1973, and each still has its own downtown, its own river crossing and its own kind of house. That history shapes almost every electrical job we take on here.

Galt: stone walls and the Grand River

Galt grew along the Grand River from the early 1800s, settled largely by Scots, and stone buildings were already rising downtown by the 1840s. Stone and solid brick make wiring slower. There's no hollow cavity to fish a cable through, so we plan routes through floors, closets and basements rather than cutting into finished walls. Older houses on the streets around the core can still carry knob-and-tube or a small fused service; our knob-and-tube replacement cost guide sets out what that work usually involves.

Preston and Hespeler

Preston sits where the Speed River meets the Grand, and a century ago it drew visitors to its sulphur springs and spa hotels. Hespeler, in the city's north-east corner, grew up around woollen mills on the Speed. Both have downtowns that mix older homes, storefronts and converted industrial buildings. Many of those houses were renovated in stages, so we test circuit by circuit instead of assuming the whole house matches its newest room.

The neighbourhoods in between

Away from the three cores, neighbourhoods such as Preston Heights, North Galt, Saginaw, East Hespeler and the old hamlet of Blair mix houses from many different decades. Here the work is usually about adding: pot lights in family rooms and basements, chargers in garages, new kitchen circuits and backyard hot tubs.

A garage EV charger is a quick job when the panel sits on the garage wall. When it's at the far end of a finished basement, we plan the cable route through the joists or along the foundation and include it in the quote, so there are no surprises on the day.

Cambridge businesses we work for

Some of our longest relationships are with Cambridge businesses that call us for upgrades, maintenance and the occasional urgent problem. Here's how one of them put it:

If you are looking for fast, efficient, customer focused, reliable and professional service, Einwechter Electric is your electrical contractor. I have used their services on many occasions, upgrades, quotes and emergencies. They are quick to respond, reasonably priced, provide excellent service and a 'feels like family approach'. (Jon Rolleman, Managing Funeral Director at Coutts Funeral Home, Cambridge)

For plazas, offices and industrial units, we handle lighting retrofits, preventative maintenance and repairs. Parking-lot poles, signs and high fixtures are reached with our bucket truck, so there's no lift to rent and no waiting on one.

Working with GrandBridge Energy

Cambridge is served by GrandBridge Energy, the utility formed from Energy+ and Brantford Power. GrandBridge won't reconnect a service until ESA has inspected the work, so on any panel or mast job we file the ESA notification, book the disconnect, and line up the inspection before the reconnect date. GrandBridge does planned disconnects and reconnects at no charge during its regular weekday hours, and we schedule around that window.

If GrandBridge investigates a problem and finds it's not on its own equipment, it will ask you to hire a licensed electrician. That's where we come in: we find the fault on your side, fix it, and get it inspected.

When the grid goes down

At the height of a significant storm in September 2026, more than 33,000 GrandBridge customers were without power. Afterward, plenty of Cambridge homeowners started asking about backup power. A standby generator with a proper transfer switch keeps the furnace, fridge and sump pump running without back-feeding the utility's lines.

Questions people ask

Who supplies electricity in Cambridge?

GrandBridge Energy, which was formed from Energy+ and Brantford Power and also serves North Dumfries, Brantford and Brant County. It handles outages and service disconnects; a licensed electrician handles the wiring on your side of the meter.

Can you rewire a stone house in Galt without wrecking the walls?

Usually, yes. Solid stone has no cavity to pull cable through, so we route new circuits through floors, closets, basements and attics, and use surface raceway only where there's no other way. We walk you through the routing before any work starts.

Who fixes a damaged meter base or mast after a storm in Cambridge?

If GrandBridge Energy finds the damage isn't on its equipment, you'll need a licensed electrician to repair it. We fix the mast, meter base or panel, notify ESA, and GrandBridge reconnects after the ESA inspection.

What does a standby generator cost in Cambridge?

A home standby generator, installed with a transfer switch, typically runs $7,000 to $15,000. The size of the unit, the fuel hookup and how far it sits from the panel all move the price.

Do you do commercial electrical work in Cambridge?

Yes. We look after offices, retail, industrial units and other commercial buildings in Cambridge, from lighting retrofits and maintenance to new circuits during renovations, and our bucket truck handles parking-lot lights and signs.
